I have today off work, but I always have Tuesdays off. Heh. It varies from place to place, but a lot of school districts and such have certain inservice days, breaks between semesters/trimesters, and such. In many cases, they do try to line them up with some holiday, if there is one conveniently close, especially if they have people who celebrate said holiday in the schools. Rarely do they do it when there isn't some other reason for the break though, unless there are enough students who would miss school as a result that it would become an issue.

Oct 21, 2006 09:46 from Survector "Do you have any evidence of people without inhibitted [sic] immune systems dying from dog saliva?" Thousands. Ever heard of rabies? That usually occurs if you are bitten, but the threat is there nonetheless. I just think that people who let dogs lick their faces are quite ignorant of the dangers. I'm sure people can enjoy their pets without having to be licked all over. It's their call, but I wouldn't do it. I'd kiss someone with AIDS before I'd kiss a dog. lol [Islam Eid Mubarak> msg #13405 (18 remaining)] Read cmd -> My dad's a butcher and I used to eat cookies for "coffee break" after helping him butcher, and I never washed my hands. I laugh at bacteria, they worship me. This includes beef, pork, chicken. My dog licking my face has yet to get me sick. Although the common cold kicks my ass every year, but that comes from people.

This might interest some of you "If the latest FBI hate-crime statistics are any indication, of the 1,314 verified offenses motivated by religious bias, 68.5 percent were anti-Jewish. Only 11.1 percent were anti-Islamic, despite claims of rampant anti-Muslim bigotry in the U.S. by groups like the Council on American Islamic Relations." http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52568

If either "Dr. Finstimer" or "Kosinos" exist, their names have been mangled beyond all recognition. The only hits you will get with Google are Muslim sites trying to rationalize the religious issues with dogs.

I don't know why you see it in such a negative way, Jed. Dr. Qaradawi is a native Arabic speaker and that is a translation. "Lovers of the West" could also mean, "People who appreciate the West" or "People who like the ways of the West". There was no condemnation made. It's not necessarily negative as there are many good things from the West. Either way, I don't see how that reduces Dr. Finstimer's scientific argument in any way, shape or form.

I answered a specific question from King of Kale, namely, "Do you have any evidence of people without inhibitted [sic] immune systems dying from dog saliva?" and I answered it. I also mentioned parasites and am still waiting on those references about how human saliva is allegedly more dangerous than dog saliva, but that's probably not topical here. Feel free to post in Medicine> if you wish to continue this.
