POPE BENEDICT XVI quoted a Byzantine emperor’s assertion that the Prophet Muhammad brought evil to Islam by making it OK to spread the faith by the sword, and in response Muslims killed a nun, threatened to murder the Pope and asserted that Islam must conquer the world. It’s as if they were trying to prove his point.

Islam was not spread with the help of sword! 
Pope Benedict was wrong in quoting a 7th century document, which inferred that Islam was spread with the use of sword. Islam never used sword or any force to become a major religion of the world. Here is a brief description of what had happened in its 1,400 years old history.
